Application
Spironolactone: An Aldosterone Receptor Antagonist
Spironolactone is an aldosterone (a mineralocorticoid) receptor antagonist. Spironolactone binds to the receptors at the aldosterone-dependent sodium-potassium exchange site in the distal convoluted renal tubule, and causes increased amounts of sodium and water to be excreted, while potassium is retained. By this mechanisms of action, spironolactone acts both as a diuretic and as an antihypertensive agent. (The product is for research purpose only.)
