Vilazodone Hydrochloride: A Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) with 5-HT1A Receptor Partial Agonist Activity
Vilazodone hydrochloride (EMD 68843) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist activity. Vilazodone binds with high affinity to the serotonin reuptake site, but not to the norepinephrine or dopamine reuptake sites. Vilazodone is used as a dual-acting serotonergic antidepressant. Although the exact mechanism is unknown, but is though to be related to its enhancement of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system (CNS) through selective inhibition of serotonin reuptake. (The product is for research purpose only.)
