Application
Captopril: An Orally Active ACE Inhibitor
Captopril (SQ 14225) is an orally active angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor often called ACE inhibitor. Angiotensin I is converted by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) to angiotensin II, a potent endogenous vasoconstrictor substance. ACE inhibitors occupy the active center of ACE so that cleavage of angiotensin I is inhibited competitively. The elevation of blood pressure is then attenuated or abolished by diminished production of angiotensin II. (The product is for research purpose only.)
