Application
1-Deoxynojirimycin: An α-Glucosidase Inhibitor
1-Deoxynojirimycin, an alkaloid azasugar, is a bioactive compound that exists in mulberry leaves and Commelina communis (dayflower) as well as from several bacterial strains. It has been reported that 1-deoxynojirimycin has diverse pharmacological properties as an α-glucosidase inhibitor, such as antihyperglycemic, anti-obesity, and antiviral activities.1,2) Furthermore, 1-deoxynojirimycin and its N-alkylated derivative (miglitol [M2302]: N-butyldeoxynojirimycin) have been used as α-glucosidase inhibitors that smooth post-prandial peak plasma glucose levels and thus improve glycemic control.3) (The product is for research purpose only.)
