Application
(+)-Terpinen-4-ol: A Monocyclic Monoterpene with Antibacterial and Antifungal Effects
Terpinen-4-ol is a monocyclic monoterpene component of essential oils obtained from several aromatic plants, and reportedly has an antibacterial and antifungal effect1-3). Terpinen-4-ol is an enantio-mixture of the dextro-rotatory (+)-terpinen-4-ol and the levo-rotatory (-) [M0319] form, and both have a similar potency in the activities, as of now. Though, a study has been shown that (+)-terpinen-4-ol is the most effective compound against adult lice4). In addition, (+)-terpinen-4-ol is reported as a transdermal penetration enhancer5).
