Cobalt Catalyst for the [2+2+2] Cycloaddition Reactions
Cyclopentadienyl(dimethyl fumarate)(triethyl phosphite)cobalt(I) (1) is an air stable and reusable cobalt catalyst. It has been reported that 1 is applicable to [2+2+2] cycloaddition reactions and enables the formation of pyridine rings.1) For example, [2+2+2] cycloaddition proceeds to form a pyridine ring by heating a diyne and a nitrile by microwave irradiation in the presence of catalytic amount of 1. In addition, 1 is more reactive than CpCo(CO)2, a general-purpose cobalt catalyst, so that it can be used for the synthesis of benzene rings using triynes as substrates.2)
