Tetraphenyldibenzoperiflanthene, a Functional Red-Emitting Organic Material

Tetraphenyldibenzoperiflanthene (DBP) is an organic optoelectronic material that emits red light. In benzene solution, DBP exhibits high quantum yield fluorescence with maxima at 596 nm and 646 nm.1) Owing to its deep highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level (−5.5 eV), efficient light absorption properties, and photochemical stability, DBP has been investigated as a donor material for organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices.2,3) DBP is also effective as a red dopant for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), exhibiting emission colors close to the standard red CIE coordinates.4,5) Furthermore, DBP has been doped as an emitter in photon upconversion via triplet–triplet annihilation (TTA-UC) systems using rubrene as the acceptor,6) where improved quantum yields relative to the rubrene-only system have been observed, and the mechanism has also been investigated.7)
