Mitochondrial Membrane Potential Detection Reagent

JC-1 is a cationic fluorescent dye widely used for the evaluation of mitochondrial membrane potential. In healthy mitochondria with an intact membrane potential, JC-1 forms aggregates and emits red fluorescence. However, in mitochondria with a decreased membrane potential, JC-1 remains in its monomeric form and emits green fluorescence.1,2) As such, changes in the ratio of red and green fluorescence can be used to assess the functional state of mitochondria (Figure). This product is supplied as a powder that can be prepared in accordance with the requirements of your specific research application.
