Silver Staining Kits for Staining Proteins and DNA after Electrophoresis

Silver staining is a typical method used to detect proteins and DNA acids in polyacrylamide gels after electrophoresis.1) Silver ions bind to proteins and DNA in the gel and are then reduced, resulting in a silver-stained image.2) 1 is more sensitive than Coomassie Brilliant Blue (CBB) staining, and can detect nanogram amounts of proteins. Also, it can stain proteins and DNA in gels in about one hour (Figures A-C). In addition, it is safe to use since it is ammonium free and does not form explosive silver amides.
