Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) Inhibitor

Valproic acid (1) is a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor.^1,2) 1 improves the reprogramming efficiency of mouse embryonic fibroblasts to iPS cells.³⁾ 1 also promotes the induction of pluripotent stem cells from primary human fibroblasts with only Oct4 and Sox2.⁴⁾ It was reported that pluripotent stem cells are induced from mouse embryonic fibroblasts by using a combination of six small molecules including 1.⁵⁾
1 also stimulates the proliferation and self-renewal of human and mouse hematopoietic progenitor cells.^6,7) In addition, 1 mediates ex vivo expansion of cord blood CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.⁸⁾
