Delafloxacin: An Anionic Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic against Levofloxacin-Resistant Strains and MRSA

Delafloxacin (ABT-492) is an anionic fluoroquinolone antibiotic lacking a basic substituent at position 7. Delafloxacin has broad-spectrum bactericidal activity in vitro against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including levofloxacin-resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The antibacterial activity of delafloxacin is due to inhibition of both bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) enzymes, which are required for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. (The product is for research purpose only.)
