Nanocarbons are the simple materials that consist of carbons and hydrocarbons. Fullerene, carbon nanotube and graphene are well known as typical compounds of nanocarbon, and some compounds show the physical properties beyond the properties of metals and metal compounds.

[Featured Products] Olefin Metathesis Catalysts

nitro-Grela [N1060] is a ruthenium complex developed by Grela et al. and is effectively used for trans-selective olefin metathesis reactions. nitro-Grela has an isopropoxy group on a phenylvinylidene moiety offering coordination to a ruthenium metal while bearing an electron-withdrawing nitro group. From these two structural relations, the complex shows the compatible properties of stabilization of the Ru-O coordination bond and the nitro group-induced increase of a dissociation ability, which resultantly shows a larger substrate scope while maintaining the activity of typical ruthenium vinylidene complexes. AquaMet [A3009], an analogue of nitro-Grela is a catalyst that is suitable for water systems due to its quaternary ammonium group.

Ni/Cu-Catalyzed Defluoroborylation of Fluoroarenes

Niwa and Hosoya et al. have reported the Ni(cod)2/CuI-catalyzed transformation of fluoroarenes to arylboronic acid pinacol esters via C−F bond cleavage. In this report, the desired arylboronic ester products are successfully synthesized by mixing fluoroarenes, bis(pinacolato)diboron ((Bpin)2), bis(1,5-cyclooctadiene)nickel(0) (Ni(cod)2), tricyclohexylphosphine (PCy3), CuI and CsF in toluene with heating at 80 °C. The ester products can be converted into various functionalized arenes through C−C, C−O, C−I, and C−N bond-forming transformations. This synthetic approach can be applied to the preparation of 18F-labeled probes for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, and the isotope exchange of 19F-antilipemic fluvastatin derivative to the related 18F-derivative has also been achieved.

Useful N,N-Disubstituted Cyanamides for Introducing Amidine Moieties

N,N-Disubstituted cyanamides are composed from two functional groups of secondary amides and cyano groups, and which are effectively used for introducing amidine moieties. For instance, in the presence of bipyridyl ligands and palladium catalysts, piperidine-1-carbonitrile successfully reacts with aryltrifluoroborates under microwave conditions to afford the desired aryl amidine derivatives.1) On the other hand, 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane ligand and an iron catalysts/zinc powder catalytic-system can be applied to the [2+2+2] cycloaddition of N,N-disubstituted cyanamides with diynes and the favorable 2-aminopyridine derivatives are given.2) In this reaction, not only terminal diynes but also methyl group, phenyl group and TMS group substituted diynes are applicable to this cycloaddition and the 2-aminopyridine derivatives with substitutions of a higher bulky group at the 3-position are obtained preferably. In this way, N,N-disubstituted cyanamides can be used for the synthesis of aryl amidine derivatives and multi-substituted 2-aminopyridine derivatives.
