Developed as an alternative to N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and behaving as a strong σ donor, Cyclic alkyl amino carbenes (CAACs) are NHC analogs with an electron-rich carbon atom substituting a nitrogen atom. CAACs are also excellent ligands for transition metal complexes as well as typical metals and boron compounds. Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Surrogate Reagents

Used in organic synthesis as both a reagent and solvent, Sulfur dioxide (SO2) though gaseous, is highly toxic and more costly to use. Labs looking for SO2 surrogate reagents turn to TCI for DABSO [B3960] and Potassium Disulfite [P2480] (both solids), and TIMSO [U0113] (liquid). An example of using DABSO [B3960] as an alternative SO2 source, includes using the copper-catalyzed direct sulfonylative-Suzuki coupling of aryl boronic acids with electrophiles. Furthermore, it has been reported that the reactions using these reagents affords sulfones, sulfonylfluorides, sulfonamides, sulfinates and sulfoxides.

Interrupted Carbonyl-Olefin Metathesis via Oxygen Atom Transfer

The Schindler Group recently discovered an additional mechanistic pathway involving a key oxetane intermediate through the synthesis of a variety of tetrahydrofluorenes. The synthesis of tetrahydrofluorenes via this method employs triflic acid [T0751] as the acid catalyst and features a broad substrate scope varying from good to excellent yield. The aromatic moiety is tolerant to strongly electron donating, electron withdrawing, and heteroaromatic (e.g. thiophene) groups.
