Tetrandrine is a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid isolated from the dried root of Stephenia tetrandra S Moore which is a plant indigenous to main land of China that has long been used as a Chinese herb. Recently, several studies have demonstrated that tetrandrine is a calcium channel receptor antagonist.
