Granisetron Hydrochloride: A Potent and Highly Selective 5-Hydroxytryptamine 3 (5-HT3) Receptor Antagonist

Granisetron hydrochloride is a potent and highly selective 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 (5-HT3) receptor antagonist that has little or no affinity for other serotonin receptors, including 5-HT1; 5-HT1A; 5-HT1B/C; 5-HT2; for α1-, α2- or β-adrenergic receptors; for dopamine-D2; or for histamine-H1; benzodiazepine; picrotoxin or opioid receptors. 5-HT3 receptors are located peripherally on vagal nerve terminals and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the area postrema, known as the emetic center of the brain. Therefore, granisetron is used for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. (The product is for research purpose only.)
