Application

Carvedilol: A Nonselective β-Adrenoceptor Antagonist with α1-Receptor Antagonistic Activity

Carvedilol is a nonselective β1 and β2-adrenoceptor antagonist1) with α1-receptor antagonistic activity.2) The ratio of β12 adrenergic activity is 7:1,1) and the ratio of α:β adrenergic activity is 1:8.3) Carvedilol is a racemic mixture, and the β-adrenoreceptor blocking activity is present in the S-(-)-enantiomer and α1-adrenergic blocking activity is present in both R-(+) and S-(-)-enantiomers at equal potency.4) Carvedilol also has antioxidant and antiproliferative effects.5) Furthermore, carvedilol is able to stimulate β-arrestin-mediated signaling.6) (The product is for research purpose only.)
