Multicomponent Reactions involving Arynes, Heterocycles, and Isatins

Experimental procedure: To a screw-capped test tube equipped is added 18-crown 6-ether (0.396 g, 1.5 mmol), KF (0.087 g, 1.5 mmol) and 1 (0.094 g, 0.50 mmol). Then the tube is evacuated and backfilled with argon. The mixture is dissolved in THF (2.0 mL). The resultant reaction mixture is kept stirring at 30 °C for 5 min. To the stirring solution is added pyridine (0.060 g, 0.75 mmol) and the 2-(trimethylsilyl)phenyl trifluoromethane sulfonate (0.223 g, 0.75 mmol) and the reaction mixture is stirred for 12 h at 30 °C. The reaction stops and the crude reaction mixture is purified by column chromatography (Pet. ether:EtOAc = 75 : 25) on silica gel to afford 2 (0.126 g, 73%) as a yellow solid.
