Application

Nafamostat mesilate: A Various Serine Protease Inhibitor

Nafamostat mesilate was first reported by Fujii and Hitomi in 1981 as a synthetic serine protease inhibitor. This compound inhibits various serine protease generated during the coagulation cascade and the inflammatory process. Nafamostat mesilate has been commonly used as an anticoagulant and reported as a drug for the treatments of DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation) and acute pancreatitis and as an anticoagulant in extracorporeal circulation.
