Cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs)

Cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs), commonly referred to as carbon nanorings, feature a remarkable structure consisting of cyclically linked para-benzene units ranging in size from 5 to 12 units and beyond. CPP's, being the smallest unit structure of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and having unique and unexplored properties, allow for modification of the CPP ring that can change the HOMO-LUMO band gap, absorption, and emission properties. Key breakthroughs in CPP research include functionalization of CPPs, and a bottom-up total synthesis of carbon nanotubes. Additionally, CPPs can function as supramolecular hosts for iodine and fullerene within the ring pore.

Perovskite Precursors: Tin(II) Iodide and Tin(II) Bromide

A novel solar cell type, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) display power conversion efficiencies over 20% seen via PSC devices whose active layers consisted mainly of lead. In order to fabricate a usable perovskite layer, use of a high-quality precursor without contamination from tin(IV) compounds (e.g. SnI4) is required. Due to the concerns of lead toxicity in lead-free or mixed metal PSCs, a possible lead alternative like Tin(II) halides can be used as a perovskite precursor. To this end, TCI offers tin(II) iodide [T3449] and tin(II) bromide [T3573] for perovskite precursors with extremely low tin(IV) content to meet purity requirements.
