Glycosphingolipids are expressed tissue-specifically and play important roles in cellular processes such as proliferation, migration, senescence, apoptosis and endocytosis. Globo-series glycolipids also have various biological functions, such as O157 Escherichia coli bacterial toxin receptor [Gb3], breast cancer marker [Globo-H], and early embryo-specific antigen [Gb5 (SSEA-3)/Sialyl Gb5 (SSEA-4)]. In addition, globo-series glycolipids are present in human erythrocytes and are antigens of a very rare blood group called P1PK. A New Function of Highly Sulfated Hyaluronic Acid

TCI and the research group of National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS) have discovered a new function of TCI’s highly sulfated hyaluronic acid [H1739]. H1739 provides protection against intestinal damage and does not induce bleeding. H1739 is as effective as the combination of FGF1 and heparin. The expected application will be in the development of drugs that prevent damage caused by radiotherapy to the intestinal tract and other parts of the body. DNA Staining Reagents for Agarose Gel Electrophoresis

Agarose gel electrophoresis is one of the most common methods used to size-separate and analyze DNA. Ethidium bromide is widely used as a DNA staining agent with agarose gels and can detect DNA with high sensitivity through visualization using UV light. However, its carcinogenicity means it must be handled with care. Ethidium bromide (0.5mg/mL in water) [E1363] comes in a dropper bottle pre-dissolved, making it safe and easy to use. 9-(2,2-Dicyanovinyl)julolidine for Cellular Imaging and the Detection of Protein Aggregation

9-(2,2-Dicyanovinyl)julolidine [D5971] is a fluorescent molecular rotor, whose fluorescence properties are greatly affected by the angle of rotation of the olefin group extending off of its lone aromatic ring. Since D5971 is sensitive to changes in the viscosity of its local environment, it is utilized in a wide range of applications such as food processing, polymer chemistry, and cellular imaging. In recent years, there have even been reports of its application in biochemical research, for example in the detection of the aggregation of polysorbate-containing IgG formulations as well as that of lipid phase transition in bacteria. » TCI eNewsletter Back Issues
