Application
Nevirapine: A Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor
Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that active against HIV-1. Nevirapine selectively inhibits HIV-1 but not HIV-2 and any of the human DNA polymerases. Nucleoside reverse transcriptases (NRTIs) compete with natural nucleic acid triphosphates for inhibitory action, whereas nevirapine does not compete with the triphosphates. Nevirapine bind to an active site of the reverse transcriptase molecule of HIV-1, and inhibits the transcriptase activity. Therefore, nevirapine is also active against NRTI (e.g. azidothymidine) resistant HIV-1. (The product is for research purpose only.)
