Application
Diosgenin: A Steroid Sapogenin with Multiple Biological and Pharmacological Activities
Diosgenin is a naturally occurring steroid sapogenin found abundantly in legumes and yams. Diosgenin is often used a precursor of various synthetic steroidal agents.1) On the other hand, it has been reported that diosgenin has multiple biological and pharmacological activities, including anticancer, cardiovascular protective, anti-diabetes, neuroprotective, immunomodulatory, estrogenic, and skin protective effects.2,3) In addition, recently diosgenin has been demonstrated to improve memory and reduced axonal degeneration in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model.4,5) (The product is for research purpose only.)
