Application
Miglitol: A Pseudo-Monosaccharide α-Glucosidase Inhibitor
Miglitol is a pseudo-monosaccharide α-glucosidase inhibitor. α-Glucosidase (also called maltase) is an enzyme, and catalyzes the hydrolysis of terminal 1,4-linked α-glucose residues of oligosaccharides and disaccharides to a single α-glucose molecule. Miglitol lowers blood sugar by inhibiting the enzyme α-glucosidase in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in delayed glucose absorption. Recently, it is reported that miglitol suppresses the expression of interleukins which are a group of cytokines that are seen to be expressed by white blood cells (leukocytes). (The product is for research purpose only.)
