Application
Valganciclovir Hydrochloride: An Oral Prodrug of Ganciclovir, with Enhanced Bioavailability
Valganciclovir is an oral prodrug of ganciclovir [G0315], with enhanced bioavailability than oral ganciclovir. After oral administration, valganciclovir is rapidly converted to ganciclovir by intestinal and hepatic esterases. The involvement of peptide transporter 1 (PEPT1) is indicated for the digestive absorption of valganciclovir.1,2) Ganciclovir is a synthetic analogue of 2’-deoxyguanosine with antiviral activity against members of the herpes group such as cytomegalovirus (CMV) and some other DNA viruses. Valganciclovir also interferes with herpes viral DNA synthesis and replication.3) (The product is for research purpose only.)
