Application
Cytarabine (ara-C): D-Arabinosyl Nucleoside exhibiting Anti-Leukemia and Anti-DNA Virus Activities
Certain D-arabinosyl nucleosides, notably cytarabine (ara-C) and vidarabine (ara-A) [V0098] are used as an anti-leukemia agent and an anti-DNA virus agent. Ara-C and ara-A are cell cycle phase-specific antineoplastic agents, affecting cells only during the S-phase of cell division. Intracellularly, ara-C and ara-A are converted into the 5-triphosphates (ara-CTP and ara-ATP), which are the active metabolites. The mechanism of actions are not completely understood, but it appear that ara-CTP and ara-ATP act through the inhibition of tumor cell or virus-induced DNA polymerases, competing with dCTP and dATP, respectively. Incorporation of them into DNA and RNA also contribute to their cytotoxicity. (The product is for research purpose only.)
