Chloramphenicol Palmitate: A Prodrug of Chloramphenicol
Chloramphenicol palmitate is a poorly water-soluble prodrug of chloramphenicol [C2255] for oral administration as a suspension agnent. The palmitate ester is inactive, requiring hydrolysis to chloramphenicol for anti-bacterial activity. The palmitate ester is hydrolyzed in the small intestine to active chloramphenicol prior to absorption. (The product is for research purpose only.)
