Application
Dacarbazine: A Triazene Alkylating Agent with Antitumor and Mutagenic Properties
Dacarbazine (DTIC) is a triazene alkylating agent with antitumor and mutagenic properties, such as temozolomide [T2744]. DTIC is a prodrug that is metabolized to 5-(3-methyl-1-triazeno)imidazole-4-carboxamide (MTIC) which serves to transport a methylating agent (diazomethane) to the O 6 position of guanine within the major groove of DNA that generate base/base mismatches with cytosine and with thymine. These adduct lead to cell death, or if the cell survives, provoke mutations in DNA helix. DTIC is used for the treatment of melanoma. (The product is for research purpose only.)
