Ergotamine tartrate: A Naturally Occurring Ergot Alkaloid Acting as an Agonist at the 5-HT1 Receptors

Ergotamine tartrate is a naturally occurring ergot alkaloid produced by the ergot fungus Claviceps purpurea. It has been reported that ergotamine tartrate binds and acts as an agonist at the 5-HT1 receptors located on intracranial blood vessels, similar to the antimigraine triptans. Ergotamine has also agonist activity at several other receptors, including α1-adrenoceptors and dopamine D2 receptors. Dihydroergotamine mesylate [D2633] is a derivative of ergotamine. In clinical, ergotamine tartrate have been widely and effectively used in the treatment of migraine. (The product is for research purpose only.)
