Application
Trifluoromethylation of Aromatic Halides

Typical Procedure (Entry 1):
A mixture of iodobenzene (5 mmol), sodium trifluoroacetate (20 mmol), and copper (I) iodide (10 mmol) in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) (40 mL) is heated under argon atmosphere. Evolution of CO2 begins at around 140 ℃. After 4 h stirring at 160 ℃, the resulting mixture is diluted with diethylether - hexane (1 : 1), filtrated through celite layer, washed with water (3 times), and dried over MgSO4. By means of GC measurement of the solution, the yield of (trifluoromethyl)benzene is determined as 72%.
