Cinchonidine: A Cinchona Alkaloid with both Biological and Asymmetric Catalytic Activity
Cinchona alkaloids (quinine [Q0028], quinidine [Q0006], cinchonidine and cinchonine [C0350]) is isolated from Cinchona plants, and have been used as traditional medicines for the treatment of malaria as well as several diseases.1) Recently studies has revealed that cinchona alkaloids exerts antimalarial, anti-obesity, anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial activity.2) On the other hand, in organic chemistry, cinchona alkaloids have been used as useful catalysts in asymmetric synthesis.3,4) (The product is for research purpose only.)
