BMVC 2: A G4 Fluorescent Probe with A Higher Binding Preference
Guanine quadruplexes (G4s) are non-Watson-Crick four-stranded nucleic acid structures held together by noncanonical G-G base tetrads. Recent studies indicate their existence in vivo and their involvement in various biological processes.1) BMVC 2 (also known as o-BMVC) is an isomer of BMVC [B6654]. Both BMVC and BMVC 2 are good fluorescent G4 ligands and can be used as fluorescent probes to image endogenous and exogenous G4 in living cells. Since the two para-pyridinium groups in BMVC play an important role in binding to duplex DNA, BMVC 2 with two ortho-pyridinium groups would coordinate more G4-selectivity with a decrease in binding affinity to duplex DNA. In fact, BMVC 2 is reported to be a better G4 fluorescent probe with a higher binding preference compared to BMVC.2,3) (The product is for research use only.)
