TCI Chemistry News August 2021
TCI offers an extensive catalog of 30,000 high quality organic reagents suitable for benchtop-to-bulk chemistry. This issue covers our chemistry expertise in sulfonium salt utilized both in mesitylation and in trifluoromethylation, reductive C-N cross-coupling reaction using an organophosphorus catalyst, Sonogashira cross-coupling with PdCl2(PPh3)2 as a catalyst, and cross metathesis using UltraNitroCat.
Sulfonium Salt Utilized both in Mesitylation and in Trifluoromethylation

Sulfonium Salt Utilized both in Mesitylation and in Trifluoromethylation

Dimesityl(trifluoromethyl)sulfonium trifluoromethanesulfonate [D5889] is a sulfonium salt also known as Mes-Umemoto reagent or Yagupolskii-Umemoto reagent. D5889 was first reported as a mesitylating reagent in cross-coupling, but later D5889 was found to be utilized in trifluoromethylation of (hetero)aryl bromides and alkyl bromides. The trifluoromethyl group is introduced by the photoredox reactions in any substrates and the reaction proceeds in complicated molecules like drugs in good or high yields. So D5889 is also useful to introduce the trifluoromethyl group at the late stage.
Reductive C-N Cross-coupling Reaction using an Organophosphorus Catalyst

TCI Practical Example: Reductive C-N Cross-Coupling Reaction using an Organophosphorus Catalyst

TCI shows the synthesis of a secondary arylamine by the reductive C-N cross-coupling reaction of a nitroarene and an arylboronic acid using anti-1,2,2,3,4,4-hexamethylphosphetane 1-oxide [H1766] as an organocatalyst. The reaction report is actually performed by TCI's synthesis staff. You can see not only the reaction procedure but also the comment and analysis data from our staff.
Sonogashira Cross Coupling with PdCl2(PPh3)2 as a Catalyst

TCI Practical Example: Sonogashira Cross-Coupling with PdCl2(PPh3)2 as a Catalyst

TCI introduces the Sonogashira cross-coupling of iodobenzene and ethynylbenzene using PdCl2(PPh3)2 [B1667] as a palladium catalyst. The product, diphenylacetylene, is obtained from the reaction mixture in high yield.
Cross Metathesis Using UltraNitroCat

TCI Practical Example: Cross Metathesis Using UltraNitroCat

TCI introduces the olefin cross metathesis between acrylonitrile and ethyl 10-undecenoate using UltraNitroCat [U0116] as a ruthenium catalyst. The reaction report says that the reaction conversion rate of 11-cyano-10-undecenoic acid ethyl ester and 10-eicosenedioic acid diethyl ester are 69.3% and 6.3%, respectively. The selectivity ratio is 92 : 8.
