Baclofen is a γ-amino butyric acid type B (GABA
B) receptor agonist. Baclofen is a muscle relaxant and antispastic, but the precise mechanism of action of baclofen is not fully understood. However, baclofen is a structural analog of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, and may exert its effects by stimulating of the GABA
B receptor subtype. Current studies suggest that baclofen may reduce alcohol dependence. Baclofen is a racemic compound, and its active enantiomer is (
R)-Baclofen (
l-baclofen or STX209) [
B5102]. (The product is for research purpose only.)
