Tetramisole hydrochloride is an alkaline phosphatase inhibitor.
1-3) It is a racemic mixture of (+) and (-) isomers. The (-) isomer, levamisole hydrochloride [

T1215], is the active enantiomer.
4) Tetramisole and levamisole are also used as an anthelminthic agent for the treatment of helminth or worm infections.
5,6) Reportedly, they work as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist that causes continued stimulation of the parasitic worm muscles, leading to paralysis.
