Condensation Reactions of Carbonyl Compounds under Mild Conditions

Mukaiyama et al. have recently reported esterification and amidation reactions using 3-pyridine carboxylic anhydride (1) as a condensing reagent.¹⁾ According to the report, approximately equimolar amounts of carboxylic acids and alcohols or amines react to afford the corresponding esters and amides, respectively, in high yields under mild conditions.
