Chlorhexidine Digluconate: A Skin Antiseptic and an Inhibitor of Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) Activity
Chlorhexidine digluconate, a biguanide, is a skin antiseptic in use in the health care setting with many potential applications for infection control. It is fungicidally active towards a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). Within topical slow release vehicles, chlorhexidine digluconate is used for the treatment of periodontal disease. In addition, chlorhexidine digluconate is an efficient inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity. (The product is for research purpose only.)
