Cycloguanil Hydrochloride: An Inhibitor of Dihydrofolate Reductase (DHFR)
Cycloguanil hydrochloride is an inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR).1-3) By blocking DHFR activity, cycloguanil prevents the production of tetrahydrofolic acid, an essential coenzyme involved in DNA and RNA synthesis. In addition, cycloguanil is an active metabolite of proguanil, produced by the P450 2C19 isoform. Cycloguanil hydrochloride is used as an antimalarial agent used in combination reagent with the other antimalarial atovaquone [A2545] against Plasmodium infections.4) (The product is for research purpose only.)
