Homoharringtonine: A Cephalotaxine Alkaloid with Antiviral and Anticancer Activities
Homoharringtonine is a cephalotaxine alkaloid originally found in Cephalotaxus hainanensis L.1) Homoharringtonine exhibits antiviral and anticancer activities, and immobilized ribosomes immediately after initiation of translation in eukaryotic systems. It has been reported that homoharringtonine induces apoptosis in human promyelocytic leukemic HL-60 cells.2,3) Therefore, homoharringtonine has been used for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
