Ramatroban: A Dual Antagonist of Thromboxane A2 Receptor and Prostaglandin D2 Receptor
Ramatroban (Bay u 3405) is a dual antagonist of thromboxane A2 receptor and prostaglandin D2 receptor. The thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and prostaglandin D2 (PDG2) are allergic substances which cause allergic inflammation. TXA2 is in the family of lipids known as eicosanoids, which are metabolites of arachidonic acid. PGD2 is a major inflammatory mediator produced by mast cells and Th2 cells. Therefore, the antagonist of these substances, ramatroban, has suppressive action of activities of these substances. In clinical, ramatroban is usually used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis.
