Quorum sensing (QS) is a type of cell–cell communication allows bacteria to share information about their surrounding environment and to adjust gene expression accordingly. QS can control bioluminescence, competence, antibiotic production, sporulation, biofilm formation, and virulence factor secretion in bacteria. Many regulatory compounds and molecular mechanisms associated with QS have been already reported. Despite, those QS systems depend on the three basic principles shown below.
