Cabazitaxel (TXD258), a semi-synthetic taxane antitumor agent, is prepared from 10-deacetylbaccatin III [
D4148]. Cabazitaxel is a microtubule inhibitor. Cabazitaxel binds to tubulin and promotes the tubulin polymerization. This leads to the stabilization of microtubules, which results in the inhibition of mitotic and interphase cellular functions. Different from docetaxel [
D4102], cabazitaxel is a poor substrate for the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) which pumps many foreign substances out of cells. Therefore, cabazitaxel is expected to have antitumor activity in docetaxel resistant cancers. In addition, cabazitaxel can cross the blood-brain barrier. (The product is for research purpose only.)
