Application
Preferential Hydrolysis of Phenyl and Vinyl Thioacetals
Typical procedure:
Under nitrogen, thioacetal (1.0 mmol) is dissolved in DMSO (5.0 mL) containing a small amount (ca. 0.09 mL) of added H2O and then, IBX (1.5 mmol) is introduced. The mixture is stirred at ambient temperature for 15 min–12 h (depending on the structure of the substrate). When TLC shows completion of the reaction, water (10 mL) is added. The white precipitates are filtered off and washing with ether. The combined filtrate / washings are washed with water and brine, and dried over Na2SO4. The residue after removal of the solvent is chromatographed on silica gel (petroleum ether / ethyl acetate) to give the pure product.
