Roxatidine Acetate Hydrochloride: A Specific and Competitive H2-Receptor Antagonist
Roxatidine acetate hydrochloride is a specific and competitive H
2-receptor antagonist. Roxatidine acetate and its main metabolite roxatidine inhibit histamine-induced gastric acid secretion with a potency greater than that of cimetidine [
C1252] and ranitidine [
R0073]. In addition, H
2-receptor antagonists such as roxatidine acetate and cimetidine are known to suppress the growth of several tumors including gastrointestinal cancer by reducing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression.
