Application
1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP or HFP): A Solvent with Specific Properties
1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP or HFP) is used as a solvent with specific properties. Its combination of high H bonding donor ability, low nucleophilicity, and high ionizing power allows reactions to proceed under mild conditions, which usually require the use of added reagents or metal catalysts to be carried out. In addition, HFIP is used as acid in volatile buffers for ion pair HPLC.
