Ibutilide Fumarate: The First "Pure" Class III Antiarrhythmic Agent
Ibutilide fumarate, the first "pure" class III antiarrhythmic agent, is shown to increase the refractory period and action potential duration of myocardial cells. At a cellular level, ibutilide fumarate exerts two main actions: dihydropyridine Ca2+ channel blockers and potent inhibition of the delayed rectifier K+ current (IKr), by binding within the channel pore cavity upon channel gating.
