Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is a detergent used in life science research. Especially, SDS is frequently used for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). However, as SDS precipitates at low temperature, improved methods by substitution of another cation for Na+ have been demonstrated to increase the solubility of dodecyl sulfate.
