Dapagliflozin: A Sodium-Dependent Glucose Transporter 2 (SGLT2) Inhibitor
Sodium-dependent glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2), expressed in the proximal renal tubules, is responsible for most of the reabsorption of filtered glucose from the tubular lumen.1) The inhibitors, including dapagliflozin (BMS-512148), suppress the reabsorption of filtered glucose in the proximal renal tubules.2-4) Therefore, the inhibitors can control blood glucose by excreting excess glucose in the urine. SGLT2 inhibitors also reduce sodium reabsorption and increase sodium delivery to the distal tubule. This has been reported to affect several physiological functions, including the reduction of cardiac preload and afterload.5) (The product is for research purpose only.)
