Application
Rosiglitazone Maleate: An Agonist at the Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor of the Gamma Subtype (PPARγ)

Rosiglitazone maleate and rosiglitazone (free base) [R0106] are agonists at the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma subtype (PPARγ), a transcriptional regulator. PPAR receptors are found in peripheral tissues that are important for insulin action. Activation of PPARγ nuclear receptors modulates the transcription of a number of insulin-responsive genes involved in the control of glucose and lipid metabolism. Therefore, rosiglitazone decreases insulin resistance in peripheral tissues and in the liver, resulting in increased insulin-dependent glucose disposal and decreased hepatic glucose output. Recently, rosiglitazone has been reported to be associated with cardiovascular problems. (The product is for research use only.)
