Application
Chlorination of Deactivated Aromatic Compounds
Typical Procedure (Preparation of 5-chloroisatin):
A suspension of isatin (10 mmol) and trichloroisocyanuric acid (3.4 mmol) in H2SO4 (4 mL) is stirred at room temperature for 5 min. After the addition of cold water, the resulting solution is extracted with EtOAc (4 x 15 mL), treated with 10% NaHCO3 (20 mL), filtered, washed with sat. NaCl solution and then dried (anhyd. Na2SO4). The organic solvent is rotaevaporated at reduced pressure and 5-chloroisatin is isolated in 72 % yield.
