Paliperidone Palmitate: A Prodrug of a Dopamine D2 and Serotonin 5-HT2 Receptors Antagonist, Paliperidone
Paliperidone palmitate is a long acting atypical antipsychotic agent. It is a prodrug that is metabolized by esterases to its active form paliperidone (9-hydroxyrisperidone) [P1897]. The active form paliperidone is a dopamine type 2 (D2) and serotonin type 2 (5-HT2) receptors antagonist, and the major active metabolite of the atypical antipsychotic risperidone [R0087].
